A long day

Well, it's that time of the year. My daughter started her job. That means that the whole family wakes up at 5:45 and drives here to the closest....ski hill to coach little kids. Then we have what, 8 hours to kill. So we took of towards Louise. There were only like -2 C at Nakiska, which gradually changed to -15 C by the time we hit Louise, and there was even snow there, unlike down here in the city. A quick stop by Banff turned up few mule deer bucks and with a hunting dog in the car rolling down the window to shoot some frames is equal with pulling a trumpet and play some high pitched solo. So after some awkward frames I gotten out and approached on foot, rolling few silent words towards myself about leaving the house with a 24-70 F2.8 L lens ONLY. Because carrying a tele in the bag would push up the gas mileage substantially on my Uplander. So here I am checking out the bucks, while they're checking out me and I'm trying to figure out if they like me or not.
After few minutes of "just between you and me" with Big Boss seemed that I cleared the gun-test. I was clean.

Meanwhile these two unnamed youngsters were checking out each-other and I quickly went lower on my knees for some shots.

They checked me out too and looked like I'm clean again so they went off to buck business. By the I was about 10-12 feet from them and laying completely on the ground listening to the fight noises. Beside the antler knocking sounds they were basically squeaking like an old door.

Looked like they had all the time in the world for WWF and with the cars piling up they moved further out in the field. Seemed like a nonsense to bother them anymore so back to the van and off to the road with a disappointed Blaze, held down by two humans to not to jump out from the van.
A quick stop at Castle Mountain was great to stretch some feet and tire some dog.
By Louise the mercury was down to -15 C and with the past months + 10 C it felt like the North Pole so we went for some warm up to the Chateau. It turned out that dogs are welcome in the hotel and we strolled along the long corridors of the hotel warming up with some tea and Blaze cashing in big time on attention from people.
Um, in the center of attention.
Blaze challenging a giant stuffed bear (watch that tail!)
 Last Christmas shot ?
Can we take this couch with us? It's comfy.

Out on the lake the weather was not quite proper for photos with gray clouds and a flat light, even my strobe seemed to be useless. Blaze tried out one of the windows on the ice castle, cut just right to the proper height for a vizsla.  He ended up with a bunch of snapshots with people too " can I take a photo with your dog? Sure!"
